Welcome, dear reader, to Midweek Meditation on the Travis Writes Sometimes Substack.
As part of this Substack, I will occasionally include briefer posts on Wednesday or Thursday with what I’m praying for that particular week and inspirational readings that I came across in my devotional life that I believe could benefit you, the audience, as well as myself. This is in addition to the weekly Monday newsletter.

Reading
We don’t believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true.
-Dallas Willard (“Renovation of the Heart”)
Take care, brothers and sisters, that none of you may have an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partners of Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end.
-Hebrews 3:12-14 (NRSV)
You see that faith was active along with his works, and by works faith was brought to completion. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
-James 2:22-24 (NRSV)
Prayer
Lord God, lead me not into the temptation to simply “slap a fish sticker on my car and call it a day.” My associations, memberships, and decorations do not make me your child. My belief in you and my reflection of that belief makes me your child.
Lord, this week help me to remember you in everything I do, think, say, and pray. Help my entire being to reflect belief in you, a loving, sovereign, and peaceful God. When I interact with someone this week, let there be no question that the God who created me is a God worth worshipping and befriending.
Amen.
